This small batch recipe will make 6 biscuits.

Cook Time12 minutes
Course: Bread
Cuisine: American
Servings: 6 biscuits

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour plus a little more for dusting
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small bits (you could grate the butter if you prefer)
  • ½ cup milk

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F/200°C. Prepare a baking sheet with a small amount or oil or baking spray.
  • Measure the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl and stir to combine.
  • Measure out the milk and set aside.
  • Add the butter and use your fingers to pinch it into the flour.
  • Add the milk and mix well. The dough will be very wet.
  • Dust a flat surface with a small amount of flour and turn the dough out onto it.
  • Dust a little more flour on the top of the dough and begin to shape into a rectangle about ¾" tall.
  • Cut the dough or use a biscuit cutter to the desired number of biscuits. I usually make six, square biscuits so I don't have leftover dough.
  • Transfer to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12 minutes or until the tops begin to turn brown.
  • If desired, brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter after removing from the oven.
