Don’t you just love the fact that there’s an app for almost everything now? From games to educational apps, there’s always something that an individual can find on the Appstore or Google Play Store.

Anyone who wants to eat less meat will be happy to know that there are a lot of apps out there which can help you discover information about certain food items. Not all apps are created equal though, so here are three apps that are highly recommended by experts for their level of content and degree of usefulness to fellow omnivores who are very particular about the food that they consume.
21-Day Vegan Kickstart
A lot of people turn vegan because food items included in this diet improve overall health. The 21-Day Vegan Kickstart app was created with the guidance of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, making it a trusted authority when it comes to food nutrition. Apart from its wealth of information, this app helps users transition from an unhealthy diet to a plant-based one with its scrumptious and easy-to-make recipes. The app is recommended for anyone trying to go vegan, but the wealth of information on the app also makes it an excellent choice for anyone who just wants to try to lessen their meat intake, or eat more vegan-friendly food.
Green Kitchen
The Green Kitchen app is for the chefs and home cooks out there. It has hundreds of delicious meat-free recipes for entrees, main entrees, and desserts. Don’t know how to cook? No problem! The recipes have detailed instructional photos that can help even the newest of cooks prepare delicious food. The app currently costs $3.99 but it’s all worth it since new content is regularly being added into the app.
Do Eat Raw
Do Eat Raw is like an encyclopedia of vegan food items. It has a FAQ section for a lot of ingredients, and it also boasts over 300 raw recipes. This is a handy app to bring along while grocery shopping as it has a built-in item list for users who need to buy lots of things. What’s great about the list is that it has a timer for perishable food so users will know when an item’s freshness has passed.
Less
Since this post was published I’ve been contacted by the designer for the Less app. This app allows you to track your meals and set goals to get better insights into your meat-eating habits.
The rise of smartphone popularity is predominantly due to the thousands of apps that help people with their everyday life. I’m constantly amazed at the variety of apps available which turn the smartphone into a powerful assistant capable of so much more than calling and texting. We can only expect more great things from mobile in the near future, given the attention that it gets from both developers and consumers.
If they could only invent an app that would put all those lovely fresh veggies away, I’d be a happy woman! How about you? Have you used any of the apps mentioned? Is there a particular app you use to help plan your meals?
This is a guest contributed article which features apps that will make flexitarian eating so much simpler. Anyone with a smart device can take advantage of new technology that does everything but cook the food.

Great information Lydia! I always have my phone with me and like to check out recipes and information while I am waiting for my kids at their sports practices. I’ll have to check out these apps.

I’ve gotten attached to my phone, too. Besides helping my keep up with social media, it also tracks my steps…so if I don’t have my phone the steps don’t “count” hahaha
