The are tons of bakeries in my town, some are Mom and Pop types and others are more like franchises and offer meals as well as baked goods. The more popular bakeries offer something the others don’t. Some places have elaborate cookies and pastries, others make awesome sandwiches. One makes hot dog pizzas.
Ovals of dough hold tomato sauce and a hot dog dressed with cheese, ketchup and mustard. I was skeptical at first, but they’re really good. They’re also really popular and are often sold out. So we decided to make them at home. It’s not difficult and if you use store bought pizza dough and sauce, is ready very quickly.
If you’re someone adventurous, you could try your hand at making your own pizza dough and sauce. Perfect for a weekend project with kids.
It’s hard to resist two family favorites combined to make a hot dog pizza.
Ingredients
- 4 of your favorite hot dogs veggie dogs, work too!
- enough pizza dough for a large pizza divided into four pieces
- about a cup of tomato sauce
- shredded cheese
- hot dog toppings like ketchup mustard, chopped onions, etc
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 450F/220C (or as directed on the package). Move the rack to the center of the oven. Prepare a baking tray with a light coat of oil.
- Form the pieces of dough into long ovals, based on the length of the hot dog. Pinch the sides to form a crust to hold the sauce and toppings.Transfer to the baking tray.
- Top the dough with a little cheese, then spread a couple tablespoons of sauce on top.
- Cut a few slices in the hot dogs, then place one in the center of each oval and add more cheese.
- Bake for 10 - 12 minutes or until the dough is cooked through and the cheese has melted.
- Before serving top with your favorite hot dog toppings.
Variations:
If you’d rather use a sausage I suggest cooking it in a separate pan before adding it to the pizza.

Will definitely make this. Pretty, too. Hot dogs are my favorite snack food, and when I want a quick hot meal, and can’t find one, I make a small cheese omelette, add a hot dog chopped into rounds, and cooked separately in the same cast iron pan, served on the side. With toast, or a toasted bun, it takes only about 6-7 mins, and it’s delicious. I use a cast iron pan, add pepper to the eggs, use nothing but a dash of Pam on the pan, no salt.
