Happy Valentine’s Day, Everyone! Have a couple frosted brownies and revel in some chocolately goodness!
You may have seen the recipe floating around Pinterest or Facebook as Lunch Lady Brownies. I’ve been making them from this recipe from the Salt Box House and refer you to their web site if you want to give them a go. Brownies are a great recipe for someone learning to cook from scratch. Most of us already have the ingredients handy and unless something seriously goes wrong, the results will at least be edible, even if not quite what you’d envisioned.
I cut the recipe in half and should have used an 8 x 8 pan instead of a small baking sheet, because I overcooked them slightly and the brownies turned out cookie like…(Hind sight means nothing when you have a plate of these bad boys available…). When I’ve made the whole recipe, I used a standard baking sheet and got a brownie somewhere between chewy and cakelike.
The chocolate buttercream frosting is really decadent! I used a dark, unsweetened cocoa and got a very dark color with a nice sheen to it. It takes a lot of beating to incorporate the powdered sugar, so don’t rush that step when you’re making it.
I didn’t intend to post today, but I finally put together a light box and wanted to take some photos. Even though there’s room for improvement in my photos I’m pleased with the results from the light box because it means an end to some of the frustration I’ve been feeling with dealing with inconsistent lighting. This year I want to get a better understanding for my camera and composition so I can improve…and perhaps put an end to the constant Food Gawker rejections hahaha. I’ll need to play around a bit with the dimensions to better fit my blog design.
Rick and I wish you the very best Valentine’s Day and hope you feel the ♥
