I’ve hooked up with Joi at RxFitnessLady to participate in a Blog Party. We’ve been challenged to post every day this week in response to different prompts. Today’s prompt was to make a blog commercial.
This was a great challenge for me. I’ve never done anything remotely like this. Since we have a video camera and Photoshop Elements (affiliate link) installed on my computer, I figured, “Why not?” How hard could it be, right?
As it turns out, it was a little more involved than point and shoot. I came up with an elaborate story board, but I kept flubbing the lines (or making a ridiculous face, or saying something very unladylike). After the first day, I had a lot of footage, but wasn’t happy with it. The photo shows the setup I used. I had my “script” taped to wine bottles and when I viewed my “takes” I noticed two things: 1) the light from the windows reflected off my glasses and 2) I wasn’t looking into the camera.
After some thought, I decided to put together a short slide show and film an introduction and conclusion. This went much better as I had learned from the earlier session. I took my glasses off, and forced myself to look into the camera. It still felt awkward, but the end result wasn’t as awful as I feared.
Without further ado…here’s my very first blog commercial!
I love the theme music. I found it at a site called Pond5 (affiliate link) which offers royalty free music and other stock media.
For the slideshow, I used photos I’d already optimized for the website, so they aren’t at their best in the video. My son was quick to point out the deficiency. He was very helpful, but by this point I wasn’t willing to go back and redo the photos in the slideshow. I may do it in the future. Or I may do the whole thing over as making this blog commercial was kind of fun!
